Our volunteers are our lifeblood. Quite simply, we wouldn’t exist without them. Yes, we have a small team of paid staff, but it’s our volunteers who keep us going.

Our daily drop-in needs regular volunteers, committed to building up knowledge and understanding of the pressing needs that face many of our visitors.

We also have plenty of opportunities for volunteering in other areas, e.g. teaching English, fundraising, event organisation, buddying, our art and music groups …and many more.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please use the links in the right-hand column. The first step is to fill in an online volunteer application form.

We will then contact you to talk about what you’d like to do, and what options are available. We may then arrange a face-to-face meeting.

Once we agree to move ahead, you’ll need to fill in and sign a copy of the volunteer agreement too.

We are very grateful to the ongoing support of Swindon’s Justice & Peace Group and other organisations who support our drop-in by providing regular supplies of tea, coffee and biscuits. If you’d like to help our visitors, we have created a shopping list here of things which are regularly needed. Unfortunately our drop-in is too small to be able to accommodate bigger items. However, we run a free shop on the first Friday of the month. To find out more, please call the office on 01793 611 682 option 1.

If raising money (heck, maybe even the roof) for a local charity with international reach appeals, simply call the office on 01793 611 682 option 1 or email fun@harbourproject.org.uk to discuss ideas.

Rising costs, increasing numbers, reduced grant funding… unquestionably these are challenging times. Our grant from Swindon Borough Council is not enough to run our Drop-in sessions, let alone the activities so crucial to improving the wellbeing of our visitors – like free English classes and recreational activities.

So could you take a walk in someone else’s shoes? Perhaps you’d like to run a marathon? Or hold a marathon cake sale! Maybe join us for our Quiz Night or Christmas curry? There are so many ways to get involved and have fun at the same time.

Raise money while shopping!

If all that seems, well, just too exhausting, how about raising money for ‘the good ship Harbour’ from the comfort of your home?

If you shop through Give as You Live, we’ll earn some money each time you buy online. It’s like using Google, only using Give as You Live’s search engine instead. It’s free to sign up – and over 4,000 leading retailers have already got involved. What’s not to love?

Hope floats! But extra income sure helps as well. Just a regular donation of £10 a month provides a warm welcome, a hot drink, something to eat and access to the internet and phone – vital links to someone far from friends and family. As a small charity, every penny really does help.
